His death was announced by his manager, Marion Rosenberg, who revealed that he died on Tuesday (1 May) at his home in Los Angeles.

Orson Welles, Sir Alfred Hitchcock and Sir Charlie Chaplin, died in Los Angeles on Tuesday, producer Dean Hargrove said. His best-known roles include playing a villain in Hitchcock's 1942 spy thriller Saboteur, which ended with his character falling from the top of the Statue Of Liberty.
