Its breathtaking mountains and tranquil lakes have attracted visitors for centuries, but now the Lake District has received the very modern title of being the UK’s most Instagrammable National Park. In fact the National Park, only a 90 minute drive from Greater Manchester, has amassed nearly five million hashtag posts on the social media platform, according to new research. As of April this year there was a total of 4,909,785 posts for the combined Instagram hashtags #LakeDistrict and #LakeDistrictNationalPark.
The hashtag #LakeDistrict was the most frequently used, featuring on 4,340,437 posts, while #LakeDistrictNationalPark was used on 569,348 posts. Hugely popular with Brits and tourists alike, the Lake District is known for Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, and Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountain.

The Peak District was named the second most Instagrammable in the study by travel site Tripplo, with a total of 2,866,251 posts with the hashtags #PeakDistrict and #PeakDistrictNationalPark. It may not be as many as the Lake District, but it does hold the title of being the UK’s first national park.
Ranking in third place was Northumberland National Park, with a total of 1,826,099 hashtagged posts. Snowdonia (Eryri) in North Wales came in fourth with a total of 1,651,698 hashtagged posts, while the New Forest National Park ranked fifth with 1,185,295 hashtagged posts.
