U2 are set to extend their residency at the new Sphere venue in Las Vegas, according to reports.Held at the newly launched venue in Nevada, the Irish rock veterans became the first artist to perform at the Sphere and are currently underway with their residency which sees them perform some ‘Achtung Baby’ deep cuts for the first time in 30 years along with other classic hits.The live shows – titled ‘U2:UV Achtung Baby Live At Sphere’ – kicked off on September 29, and was scheduled to run until December 16. However, according to new reports, it seems that the band are set to be adding more dates to the residency.The speculation arose after outlets like The New York Post claimed that U2 are set to add a total of 12 more dates to the list while organisers continue to seek out other acts to take on the headline spot at the $2.3billion venue.It is not yet clear whether these 12 extra dates have been locked in or not, however, with Bono and co.

U2 frontman Bono has paid tribute to the 260 music fans killed during an Israel festival attack while on stage in Las Vegas.The moment took place when the Irish singer was on stage with the band as part of their ongoing Las Vegas residency – held at the new $2billion Sphere venue. Around mid-way through the set, he took time to speak to the audience and shared his condolences for the events unfolding across Israel and Palestine, stating that his prayers go out particularly to those who died at a music festival.The event he referred to is the attack launched at the Paralello Universo festival in Re’im, Israel over the weekend (Saturday, October 7), which was carried out by Hamas operatives.The electronic festival was interrupted in the early hours of Saturday morning, and reportedly saw rockets hit the site around 6:30am (via CNN) before gunfire opened up on those in attendance soon after.Earlier today (October 9), it was announced that 260 people were killed at the festival, while hundreds more remain missing.During the band’s performance at the Nevada residency last night, frontman Bono dedicated his hit 2003 song ‘Pride (In the Name of Love)’ to the victims, and shared his hopes for a non-violent solution to the conflict.In the light of what’s happened in Israel and Gaza, a song about non-violence seems somewhat ridiculous, even laughable, but our prayers have always been for peace and for non-violence…But our hearts and our anger, you know where that’s pointed.

U2 have said they have some “amazing new songs” in the can, teasing that they will be “ready soon”.The Irish group are currently a week into their spectacular residency at Las Vegas’ groundbreaking new venue, Sphere. U2 honoured the late Sinead O’Connor at their Las Vegas Sphere show last weekend by performing a snippet of her song ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ during ‘With Or Without You’.The Irish rockers kicked off their residency at the brand new $2 billion MSG Sphere venue at the Venetian Resort last Friday (September 29), which saw them christen the 18,000 seated structure that has 160,000 speakers and a dome-shaped wraparound LED screen.During Saturday night’s (September 30) show, the band performed their 1987 classic ‘With Or Without You’ in which frontman Bono concluded the song with the lyrics, “Nothing compares to you“, from O’Connor’s 1990 release of the same name.Watch footage of the performance below.Irish music legend O’Connor died at the age of 56 in July.

The opening night of the new Sphere Las Vegas event space was a star-studded affair!

We can’t wait to go back to @SphereVegas and take the kids to watch Darren Aronofsky’s new movie, Postcard From Earth, made JUST for this venue on specialty cameras that capture 270 degrees! That will be a totally different experience!

It looked like a typical U2 outdoor concert: Two helicopters zoomed through the starlit sky before producing spotlights over a Las Vegas desert and frontman Bono, who kneeled to the ground while singing the band’s 2004 hit “Vertigo”.

Sphere, the innovative new concert venue in Las Vegas, opened on Friday night (September 29) with a performance from U2 and we have incredible photos and videos from inside the dome.
