Firefighters who rushed to a blaze at a Chinese restaurant which sent smoke billowing over the city centre discovered another fire in the same block, it has been revealed. A fire in the kitchen of Lameizi restaurant on Chester Street, off Oxford Road, caused concern in the city after it sent black smoke out of the extraction system into the city centre sky, however, another fire threatened the building just before.
Pictures shared on social media showed plumes of thick black smoke rising from the top of the Quadrangle building above the restaurant. The building is home to a number of apartments and restaurants.
The MEN understood this was the only incident the fire service attended at that building. But, another blaze had broken out before this in the same block, the fire service has now said.

Five fire engines as well as a turntable ladder and support pump were called to deal with the kitchen fire. And while in attendance, it was discovered there had been an electrical fire elsewhere in the block. Fortunately, the blaze had already been put out, with crews only having to carry out some checks to make sure everything was safe.
No evacuations had to be carried out despite how severe the fire may have looked. One man received injuries to his hands during the fire at the Chinese restaurant, but did not require hospital treatment.
