‘Ticket to Paradise’ Review: Julia Roberts and George Clooney Contemplate a Second Chance at Love in an Old-Fashioned Romcom

Richard Kuipers Romantic comedies have never gone away, but mainstream examples with A-list stars have been pretty thin on the ground since the glory days of the ’90s and early 2000s, when “Pretty Woman,” “Notting Hill,” “Love Actually” and “Bridget Jones’s Diary” ruled at the box office. Bucking the trend is “Ticket to Paradise,” a glossy piece of fluff starring Hollywood royalty Julia Roberts and George Clooney as a divorced couple whose passion reignites in Bali during their hare-brained attempt to prevent their daughter from marrying a guy she’s only just met. While far from a classic of its kind, this is likely to be just the “Ticket” for general viewers relishing the chance to watch Roberts and Clooney trade poisonous barbs, before being struck by Cupid’s arrow all over again.

Former James Bond star George Lazenby apologises for “homophobic” and “misogynistic” comments

James Bond actor George Lazenby has apologised after being accused of making “homophobic” and “misogynistic” comments in a recent on-stage interview. The actor, who starred as 007 in the 1969 film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, was appearing as a guest as part of an Australian tour called The Music of James Bond. However, audience members in Perth took offence at the Australian actor’s anecdotes, describing them as “creepy” and “disgusting”.Taking to Twitter, Lazenby said he was “sorry and saddened to hear” that his stories had offended some fans.“It was never my intention to make hurtful or homophobic comments and I am truly sorry if my stories that I have shared many times were taken that way,” he wrote.Theatre producer Concertworks said it was “extremely saddened and disappointed” by Lazenby’s “language, comments and recollections” during Saturday’s (September 10) show in Perth, and have since removed the actor from all future performances of the tour.“These were his personal views and there is no excuse for this in today’s society. They do not reflect the views of Concertworks,” said the company’s lawyer, Aaron Kernaghan in a statement (via the BBC).Kernaghan added that the company has “chosen to discontinue its relationship with Mr Lazenby” and is now conducting a “thorough review of the matter”.I am sorry and saddened to hear that my stories in Perth on Saturday might have offended some people.

Disney Star Scores ICC India Cricket Rights Through 2027

Naman Ramachandran Disney Star has won Indian TV and digital rights to both men’s and women’s global events conducted by the International Cricket Council (ICC) from 2024 through 2027. While the ICC did not disclose a value to the deal, it said that the “incredibly competitive” process “yielded a significant uplift to the rights fee from the previous cycle continuing the impressive growth and reach of cricket.” The rights to the previous cycle, valued at approximately $2.1 billion, were won by Star, then a Fox network, but those were for eight years and for worldwide rights, rather than India alone. The Indian market has grown exponentially since then. Winning the ICC rights is a coup for Disney Star, who recently ceded digital rights to the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament to a Viacom18 group backed by billionaire industrialist Mukesh Ambani, which paid some $3 billion. Disney Star paid $3.01 billion for broadcast rights.

Two Australian rules football players from a suburban Melbourne club are in trouble after mobile video footage emerged of them performing a sex act in the middle of a crowded pub.The incident has led to the Glen Waverly Football Netball Club promising action against the two players and the other team members involved in the alleged incident.“The Committee has been made aware of an incident which has occurred during the post season celebrations of some of our senior playing group,” the Glen Waverly Football Netball Club committee said in a statement. The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday August 14 after the club’s final game of Eastern League’s Division 3 season, where they finished last and were demoted to Division 4.The last place did not dampen the spirit of the players as they celebrated at a bar, with other patrons present. The Daily Mail reported that the raucous group indulged in some heavy drinking, smashed glasses inside and outside the pub, vaped indoors, stole drinks from the bar, danced on tables and trashed the venue property.
