TV star Trisha Goddard has bravely revealed that her breast cancer has returned, but she's determined to keep enjoying her life. The 66 year old presenter was first diagnosed with the disease in 2008 and has now been told she has secondary breast cancer, which can be treated but not cured.
Trisha found out about her diagnosis 19 months ago but has only just decided to share the news. "It's not going to go away," she said, adding that the knowledge brings both grief and fear.
But she's determined to keep doing what she loves.
Trisha is a TV legend, having hosted her own talk show on Channel 5 and the BAFTA-winning show Trisha on ITV. She's spoken about her cancer battle before and says she's sharing the news of its return now, after keeping it a secret had become a burden. She doesn't want to be seen as "frail" by her fans or those around her.
Speaking to HELLO! Magazine, Trisha said she was tired of hiding her health issues and explained: "I can't lie; I can't keep making up stories. Sharing her worries about her diagnosis, she said: "My fear is that people will start seeing me as a frail little thing, and if [the news] got out, I'd be judged, or people would treat me differently, or I wouldn't get work," she said. "I'm a journalist; I don't want to become 'the story'.
I don't want to be interviewing someone and they say to me: 'I'm so sorry.'" Trisha took to Instagram to share her diagnosis - and to promote her new interview about it.
Trisha wrote: "Doing this is tough. .. I've been keeping a difficult secret for 19 months now, but like my new hairstyle I can't hide it anymore." Trisha revealed that she was
