Check out Kim Gordon’s disorientating new single ‘ECRP’

Kim Gordon has dropped a discordant new single, ‘ECRP’, to coincide with a run of dates starting tonight (June 25).Following on from her trap-inspired album ‘The Collective’ earlier this year, Gordon’s new one-off single is a noisy, experimental affair that speaks of “rumours of free speech” and “ashes on the nightstand”.The video, meanwhile, was directed by Gordon’s daughter Coco Gordon Moore and features various shots of New York street scenes.Check out ‘ECRP’ below.Gordon plays London’s Koko tonight, kicking off a European tour, and will head to Birmingham for a gig at the O2 Institute2. The tour also includes various festival appearances at the likes of Glastonbury, Open’er and Roskilde. In a four-star review of ‘The Collective’, NME wrote: “Here the 70-year-old balances her less than commercial sensibilities with crunchily on-trend production and relatable lyrics about rotten capitalism and fragile masculinity – if these sound like themes she explored during Sonic Youth’s ‘90s heyday, it only goes to show how little has changed.”“It’s notable, though, how contemporary her distorted art-punk sounds, given the ongoing grunge resurgence and the fact that Olivia Rodrigo’s taking The Breeders on tour this year.

Liam Gallagher has compared Manchester’s new Co-Op Live arena to New York’s iconic Madison Square Garden – despite the venue’s recent problems. The venue in Gallagher’s hometown has had its fair share of teething problems this year, mired in controversy after myriad delays. It was due to open on April 23 with a show from comedian Peter Kay, but after power supply issues at a test event featuring Rick Astley, Kay’s show was first postponed by a week and then for a second time as the venue “wasn’t ready“.Shows by The Black Keys, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Olivia Rodrigo and Keane were all postponed, too, while Take That decided to move their five concert dates to the AO Arena instead.

BERWYN announces debut album ‘WHO AM I’ with new single ‘DEAR IMMIGRATION’

BERWYN has announced his hotly-anticipated debut album ‘WHO AM I’ and shared moving new single, ‘DEAR IMMIGRATION’.Following the release of the powerful single ‘I AM BLACK’, the new album offers what is described as a “vivid and vulnerable journey through BERWYN’s search for meaning and freedom”.News of the NME Award-winning singer-rapper’s debut is accompanied by the release of ‘DEAR IMMIGRATION’, a spoken word battle cry against a corrupt immigration system. On the song, BERWYN sings: “You make me look at the mirror in horror, you took my tomorrow / I want you to know since I was nine I felt like a crime / I used to imagine you coming for me every day of my life” – watch below. His lyrical honesty has become a signature of his sound, which he previously told NME was “a double-edged sword“, saying: “The sick part about it all is that for my day job I stand up on a wooden stage and people are like ‘Your life is hard? Tell me more. Give me more.'”But that hasn’t put the Trinidad-born artist off being emotionally frank, with his debut studio album promising “crafted and cohesive reflections on faith, on the tugs of addiction and the embrace of love, on what it means to be demonised for your immigration status or skin colour”.In 2021, the Mercury Prize nominee told NME his work was intentionally “solemn, musical and explorative,” going on to say these attributes were “tools relative to every human being inside of the matrix we live in.”The debut album follows BERWYN’s EP, ‘Bulletproof’, and two previous mixtapes, ‘Demotape/Vega’ and ‘Tape 2/Fomalhaut’, which NME wrote had “a beautiful twilight quality” in a four-star review.‘WHO AM I’ is out on July 12 via Columbia Records.

Bon Jovi lives on with new album ‘Forever’ — 40 years after their debut: review

Bon Jovi made their debut 40 years ago with their 1984 self-titled album featuring their hit “Runaway,” they were compared to the likes of Loverboy.Words like “characterless” and “nondescript” were used to describe their music in a review by the Washington Post, which called out Jon Bon Jovi’s singing as “high, hysterical screaming.”The review went on to slam his songwriting, saying: “He writes dumb songs about women.”And the review concluded with one final dig. And I quote: “The band’s brand of antiseptic hard rock only makes you want to cheer on all the more the undiluted heavy rockers like Motley Crue.”Ouch.

Raye shares “deeply personal” new single ‘Genesis’: “It is a prayer, a plea and a cry for help”

Raye has shared an expansive and “deeply personal” new single, ‘Genesis’ – you can listen to it below. The multi-BRIT Award-winning singer-songwriter previewed the track live at a special pop-up exhibition in New York City earlier this week, saying she was “so proud” of how it had turned out.Today (June 7) Raye released the studio version of the ambitious, seven-minute song – which marks her first material since her critically acclaimed, Mercury Prize-nominated debut album ‘My 21st Century Blues’ (2023).“There is a Nina Simone quote, ‘It is an artist’s duty to reflect the times’. This quote is everything to me and I believe the best way I can try to do this is through my art and my music,” she said in a statement.“There is so much darkness and pain in this world we live in, and I wanted to create something both as deeply personal and as raw as I could find myself to be about my own mind and the world I see around me.”Raye continued: “The song is a seven-minute piece that I have crafted and scrutinised over the last year and a half, experimenting with different genres and sonic expressions, beneath all the layers and the lyrics, the underlying message is ‘Let There Be Light’.“It is a prayer and a plea and a cry for help, and I really hope this song will be able to bring some hope, the way this music does for me, to those who need it most.”In the gospel-tinged first part, Raye sings about how she’s “been sober for some months“.
