Tove Lo has shared the fifth and final single from her forthcoming fifth studio LP. “Grapefruit” is out now alongside a cinematic visual treatment courtesy of Lisette Donkersloot, and Dirt Femme is due out this Friday (October 14) via Tove’s own, brand new indie label, Pretty Swede Records.
In the new song, Tove comes clean for the first about the eating disorder that controlled her for years and nearly ruined her singing career. “Counting while I run the tap, I’m on my knees / Choking on my hands all night, in my sleep,” she begins, a Robyn-esque synth beat building behind her.
“Counting all the calories, now get ’em up / Body positivity, help me out.” Read Next: Song You Need: Tove Lo delivers a shattering vocal performance on “True Romance” Despite its serious subject matter, the song soon breaks out into a full-on dance number, its infectiously triumphant tone reflecting how far Tove has come in her struggle to accept the woman she sees in the mirror. Even in the video — which shows her convulsing in choreographed agony in a depressingly lit kitchen (featuring a fridge that contains only the titular, moldy grapefruit) and a padded cell — her moves and wardrobe choices project the confidence of a performer who is fully at home in her own skin.

Fiona Apple has unveiled a new song recorded exlusively for Amazon Prime's new Lord of the Rings TV series, The Rings of Power. "Where The Shadows Lie," made in collaboration with composer Bear McCreary, is inspired by J.R.R.
Jem Aswad Senior Music Editor Fiona Apple has dropped a new song as part of the season finale of Amazon Studios’ series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.” With vocals by Apple and music by Bear McCreary, the song is titled “Where the Shadows Lie” and is from a J.R.R. Tolkien poem that appeared in the original books — the song appears only on Amazon Music but a link and excerpt is below. “The musical legacy of ‘The Lord of the Rings’ brings to mind ethereal vocals carrying lyrical melodies over evocative harmonies, so it was my natural inclination to compose such a song for ‘The Rings of Power,’” said McCreary. “Based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s iconic ‘Ring Poem’ text, I wrote the song ‘Where the Shadows Lie’ as a theme for the titular Rings of Power, for the magic of mithril, for the sinister machinations of Sauron, and for his land of Mordor.”
