‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Producer Skydance Nabs $400 Million Investment to Surpass $4 Billion in Valuation

Skydance Media said today it’s completed a $400 million strategic investment round led by KKR, a first-time investor, and joined by the Ellison family, who remain majority shareholders. Existing investors RedBird Capital Partners and Tencent also participated in the fundraise, which values Skydance at over $4 billion.

Previous investors RedBird Capital and Tencent have also upped their contributions, bringing the total valuation of the producer behind “Top Gun: Maverick” to over $4 billion. The Ellison family remains the majority stakeholder in the venture. “Skydance has already created a diverse collection of premium content across multiple formats, and we are only in the early stages of what they can accomplish. We look forward supporting the Skydance team as they continue to build their business across TV, film, animation, gaming and sports and tell compelling stories in new and innovative ways,” said KKR parter Ted Oberwager, who leads the gaming, entertainment, media and sports verticals within KKR’s Americas Private Equity business.

EXCLUSIVE: In what is turning into one of the more hotter projects in town, Skydance’s The Gorge starring Miles Teller, looks to have found its distributor and Teller’s co-star. Sources tell Deadline, Apple Original Films have come on to the pic with SAG Award-winner Anya Taylor-Joy set to star alongside Miles Teller in the genre-bending love story. Scott Derrickson is on board to direct with Zach Dean penning the script, which he sold on spec to Skydance last year. In addition to starring, Teller will serve as executive producer on the film.

"Top Gun: Maverick" actress Monica Barbaro flew with the U.S. Navy Blue Angels as part of the celebrations for San Francisco’s Fleet Week.  Pilot Lieutenant Commander Griffin Stangel flew the plane during Barbaro’s VIP flight, which she was nominated to take part in by The Air Show Network due to her various charitable efforts involving the youth in her community. Barbaro is active in a number of charities to benefit the youth, including the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), The Make-A-Wish Foundation and The Wingman Foundation, which raises money for the families who have lost loved ones in the armed forces.

Live from New York, it’s Rooster! Fresh off his Top Gun success, Miles Teller has made his hosting debut on Saturday Night Live — and he’s touting the military movie as comedic inspiration.

Miles Teller gave fans a glimpse into the moment he met the royal family. Teller, 35, was introduced to Prince William and Catherine at the May premiere of "Top Gun: Maverick" in the United Kingdom. "I kind of had a sheet to prep to make sure I didn't mess it up," the actor admitted during an appearance on "The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon." Despite being given a list of "dos and don'ts," Teller doesn't think the encounter went the way it was supposed to go.

Miles Teller has joked that he "blacked out" when he met Prince William at the Top Gun: Maverick premiere. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, the actor opened up about his experience of meeting William and his wife, Catherine, Princess of Wales at the London debut of the action film in May. While his co-stars managed to stay cool when meeting the royal couple, Miles confessed that he lost all decorum when it was his turn for an introduction.
