A troubling update has been released by the Northeast division of the United States Coast Guard with regard to the missing OceanGate Expeditions submersible.
Earlier today, it was learned that various submersibles were deployed to the site of the Titanic wreckage to search for the missing sub. These submersible’s are remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and are manned from ships on the surface of the water.

The Coast Guard posted on Twitter, “A debris field was discovered within the search area by an ROV near the Titanic. Experts within the unified command are evaluating the information.” In addition, a press conference has been schedule for 3pm ET.
This does not confirm that it is related to the missing OceanGate vessel, but it is significant that the Coast Guard provided this update.
It’s unclear what might have happened to the sub in the depths of the ocean. There are theories that range from the sub possibly having imploded due to some kind of leak in the hull, or perhaps the sub got caught in a piece of the Titanic wreckage. There was some hope that perhaps the passengers were alive after “banging sounds” were heard near the wreck site.
There are 5 passengers who were on board the submersible.
