British Astronaut Tim Peake has shared a selfie in Oban as he arrives in Scotland for a Munro-bagging trip with his father-in-law. The former International Space Station (ISS) crew member posted the smiling photo of himself heading for the ferry en route to the Isle of Mull on social media.
Tim is a European Space Agency Astronaut and is famous for having become the first Briton to visit the ISS in 2015, even managing to complete a spacewalk during his six-month stay on the station.
Posting the image of himself alongside one of Scotland from space, Tim wrote: "Great to spend the day in the Scottish Islands hiking with my father-in-law. He’s climbed all 282 Munros (many several times) and now has only 29 Corbetts to go - a huge accomplishment."
He also shared an image of what appears to be a waterfall on Mull as he spent some quality time with his family.
Fans were delighted to see him taking some time out of his busy schedule to enjoy himself, one wrote: "I'm so glad you have found time in your busy life to spend with family doing an activity you both enjoy on beautiful islands."
Another added: "Well done Tim Peake not only inspiring the next generation in STEM but an Ambassador for VisitScotland. Perhaps “Train like an Astronaut” should also include climbing hills near youngsters' homes then perhaps considering exploring Munros."
Not just busy climbing mountains, Tim is also an ambassador for STEM education and has just written the second book in his 'Swarm Rising' series.
