SAG-AFTRA Health Plan to Pay $15 Million to Resolve Ed Asner’s Class Action Lawsuit

Gene Maddaus Senior Media Writer The SAG-AFTRA Health Plan announced on Monday that it has agreed to pay $15 million to older performers who lost health coverage due to eligibility changes made in 2020. Under a settlement agreement, the health plan will also pay up to $5.6 million over the next eight years to older performers who no longer qualify for coverage. The settlement resolves a class action lawsuit filed in December 2020 by Ed Asner, a former SAG president, and nine other performers. Asner and the other plaintiffs alleged that the plan had discriminated against older members by raising the earnings floor to qualify for health benefits and excluding residuals from the earnings threshold. The plaintiffs said the change forced nearly 12,000 participants off the plan.

Hear Drake sample Kim Kardashian on his first solo single for the year, ‘Search & Rescue’

Drake has returned with his first solo single for the year, a moody head-bopper titled ‘Search & Rescue’ – on which he samples Kim Kardashian. As revealed yesterday (April 6) after Drake previewed the song on SiriusXM Radio, Kardashian is sampled after the first chorus of ‘Search & Rescue’, with a snippet of the model and socialite talking about her separation from ex-husband Kanye West in 2021.The sample itself comes from the series finale of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, when she tells her mother (Kris Jenner): “I didn’t come this far, just to come this far and not be happy. Remember that.”Drake himself had a longstanding feud with West, which seemed to end after their joint headline performance at the “Free Larry Hoover” benefit concert in 2021.

Zack Sharf Digital News Director Ahead of the Broadway opening of his new “Camelot” musical adaptation, Aaron Sorkin revealed to the New York Times that he suffered a stroke last November. The medical emergency occurred two months before “Camelot” rehearsals were set to begin and resulted in his blood pressure being so high that “you’re supposed to be dead,” Sorkin said. As reported by The Times: “For about a month afterward, [Sorkin] was slurring words. He had trouble typing; he was discouraged from flying for a few weeks; and until recently, he couldn’t sign his name (he has just discovered, thanks to ‘Camelot’ autograph seekers, that that’s improving). Those issues are now behind him, and the main lingering effect is that he still can’t really taste food.”
