Next month sees the release of his violent Viking epic that is directly inspired by an original Scandinavian story that was influenced by William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet.” The film “The Northman” sees the filmmaker reunite with actress Anya Taylor-Joy and they’re already planning a second reunion with a remake of the silent era horror classic, “Nosferatu.” In a new interview in The New Yorker promoting “The Northman,” Eggers revealed that British pop star Harry Styles (One Direction) was originally going to star in the vampire flick alongside Taylor-Joy as prep for the remake has started in Prague.

ITV has also created a new £500,000  development fund to develop ideas that will qualify for its Diversity Commissioning Fund.While at least 25% of the fund is only for productions made by Black, Asian and minority ethnic-led and disabled-led production companies, the remaining 75% of the fund can be accessed as long as productions are overseen by companies with either diverse ownership or leadership.

Women and actors of color made slight gains as the leads of the top-grossing films of 2021, according to a new study released Monday from Stacy L. Smith’s USC Anennberg Inclusion Initiative.Across the 100 top-grossing films of 2021, 41% of movies had a female lead/co-lead, a rebound from 36% in 2020 and slightly below the peak of 43% in 2019. 2021 demonstrates the progress made since 2007, when the percentage of films with a female lead/co-lead was 20%.
