The Weeknd's HBO Show 'The Idol' Gets Series Order, Eight Actors Added to Cast

Disney Branded Television has given a series order to Meet the Mayhems, an original live-action comedy series from Lab Rats co-creators Chris Peterson and Bryan Moore. Production is underway in Los Angeles on the series about a family of raucous supervillains who recently ran afoul of the League of Villains and now must somehow beat a path to normalcy in a small Texas town. The series is scheduled to premiere in summer 2022 on Disney Channel and Disney+ platforms worldwide.

HBO has fleshed out its cast for music industry drama series The Idol. Juliebeth Gonzalez has been added as a series regular, and Maya Eshet (Teen Wolf), Tyson Ritter (Preacher), Kate Lyn Sheil (House of Cards), Liz Sierra and Finley Rose Slater (Playing With Fire) will recur in the series, co-created by Euphoria creator Sam Levinson, Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye and Reza Fahim. The high-profile one-hour drama is currently in production.

AMC Networks has given a series green light to Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches, based on the “Lives of the Mayfair Witches” trilogy, to run on the linear AMC network and streamer AMC+. The Weeknd‘s 2020 mega hit ‘Blinding Lights’ has officially been crowned the biggest US Billboard Hot 100 single of all time.The song, which appeared on Abel Tesfaye’s ‘After Hours’ album and was released at the end of 2019, has now spent 90 weeks in the charts.In that time, it set a new record for most weeks in the Top Five of the chart (43), Top 10 (57 weeks) and Top 40 (86 weeks).

The Weeknd’s drama series The Idol has been given the green light from HBO, with Troye Sivan and seven others joining the cast.According to Variety, the US network has formally ordered the six-episode series, which The Weeknd – real name Abel Tesfaye – stars in and has co-written and executive produced.Originally announced in June as being in development, The Idol follows a female pop singer who enters into a relationship with a cult leader and self-help guru.

The Weeknd's series, .The network also confirmed that Troye Sivan, Elizabeth Berkley Lauren, Suzanna Son, Steve Zissis, Anne Heche, Melanie Liburd, Tunde Adebimpe and Nico Hiraga have all been added to the cast.
