The pic is an adaptation of a memoir of the same name by author-filmmaker Bill Bennett. The book follows Bennett as he attempts to walk the Camino de Santiago — an 800km pilgrimage trail across the top of Spain. The story is described as the tale of “a man at a pivotal point in his life, searching for meaning, and finding himself on the walk.”
Bennett (Spider & Rose, Kill or Kill, The Nugget) has written and directed the film, which stars Chris Hayward (Newsfront, Muriel’s Wedding), and Jennifer Cluff (Kiss Or Kill). The film will be theatrically released by Maslow Film Distribution in Australia and New Zealand on May 16 and SC Films will screen the film in Cannes.
“I’m delighted to be working with Simon and his team again. They handled an earlier film of mine, and I could not have been happier with the relationship. We’ve remained friends over the years, and I know Simon will do a terrific job bringing this unique film to a worldwide audience,” said Bennett.
Simon Crowe of SC Films added: “This is a gentle feelgood comedy for the millions of people like me who walk every weekend but are sometimes inspired to do something more adventurous. This is a challenge I intend to do one day.”
SC Films’s slate also includes the rom-com He Loves Me Not, fantasy horror Dusk, action-adventure Orang Ikan, and horror By The Throat in post-production.
