‘The Queen’s Gambit’ Dominates 2021 Creative Arts Emmys Night One

The winners of the Documentary categories of the 42nd Annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards are in tonight, with PBS once again topping the contenders with 10 wins, while Netflix nabbed four trophies.

A big night for The Crown and The Queen’s Gambit helped Netflix score the most wins by any platform or network at last night’s Emmys, equalling the record set by CBS in 1974 with 44 wins.

Netflix’s The Crown swept the floor at the 2021 Emmy Awards on Sunday as the hit show scooped seven prizes.The programme won the highly-coveted Best Drama Series award, while four of the main cast – Olivia Colman, Gillian Anderson, Tobias Menzies and Josh O’Connor – won individual acting accolades. Olivia Colman’s Best Actress in a Drama Series win sparked a tear-jerking speech as the actress took the chance to remember her late father, who died during the pandemic.

The Television Critics Association announced the 2021 winners of the 37th Annual TCA Awards and, as expected, “Ted Lasso” ruled the proceedings. The Apple TV+ series not only took the prestigious Program of the Year honor but Outstanding Achievement in Comedy and Outstanding New Program.

In yet another sign the Television Academy may need to seriously reconsider some of its categories, Claire Foy won her second Emmy Award for playing Queen Elizabeth II in “The Crown.” This win, however, came in the Guest Actress in a Drama Series category and for a less than 5 minute appearance in the fifth season of the series.

The second and third events will take place today at 1pm PT (9pm BST) and 5pm PT (1am BST) today (12).The Queen’s Gambit took home seven awards, including Sound Editing for a Limited or Anthology Series, Movie or Special, and Period Costumes.
