‘The Powerpuff Girls’ to become “disillusioned 20-somethings” in live-action reboot

Joe Otterson TV ReporterApple has ordered a live-action series adaptation of the Korean webtoon “Dr. Brain.” The series will be the first completely Korean-language project at the streamer.Kim Jee-Woon will write and direct, with “Parasite” star Lee Sun-Kyun set to star.

If Disney hires Robert Zemeckis to direct a live-action “Pinocchio” remake, you better believe Tom Hanks is on board to star, right? And that’s exactly what’s happening. But Tom Hanks can’t possibly play all the characters, so now we know who the filmmaker is bringing out to join the Oscar-winning actor in Disney’s latest attempt to remake a classic animated feature.

Brent Lang Executive Editor of Film and MediaJospeh Gordon-Levitt will provide the voice of Jiminy Cricket, while Cynthia Erivo will play the Blue Fairy in Disney’s live-action retelling of “Pinocchio.” That means that Gordon-Levitt will give his pipes a workout, singing “When You Wish Upon a Star,” which became an anthem of sorts for the Disney brand.They join a cast that includes Tom Hanks as Geppetto and Luke Evans as The Coachman.

Pilot season at The CW is happening after all.

Joe Otterson TV ReporterThe CW has made a number of orders for the 2021-2022 season, including a pilot order for the live-action “Powerpuff Girls” series.In total, The CW announced three pilot orders and one straight-to-series pickup, with the latter being a reboot of the USA Network series “The 4400.” The other two pilots are for the DC project “Naomi” from Ava DuVernay and Jill Blankenship and an untitled religious dramedy from Claire Rothrock and Ryann Weir.
