Goodbye then Boris Johnson - the man who promised so much to so many but ultimately left us wanting. And never more so than now, in the midst of a cost of living crisis when food, fuel and heating is simply unaffordable.
The Prime Minister's resignation essentially leaves the country without a functioning government at a time when millions are at risk of hunger, poverty and homelessness.
It certainly leaves our region in limbo. And what now for the promises made as part of Mr Johnson’s flagship Levelling Up policy? The roll out of bus franchising, funding for public transport and the revised Clean Air Zone could all be delayed as a result of the current chaos in Westminster. And with Michael Gove sacked as Levelling Up Secretary, who knows what we’ll be left with.
Andy Burnham says there must be a general election if the Tories renege on their Levelling Up promises. But at the moment, things feel precarious.
So what of Boris Johnson’s time here in Greater Manchester? He promised much over the years, but has he delivered?
There is barely a Manchester Evening News reporter around who hasn’t interviewed the outgoing PM. The man will speak to anyone. How much substance you’ll get is a different matter.
