The Two Crows venue opened earlier this month in Bury town centre.
It’s the work of the town’s Met theatre, using the space previously occupied by Automatic restaurant, which has stood empty since closing last July.
It’s now been transformed into a vibrant and colourful arts space - with prints, sketches and paintings displayed on the walls and crammed full of drawing desks and oodles of creative resources.
If, like me, you love art and creativity but are cluelesswith a paint brush, then the venue hosting relaxed art classes, as well as being a social space and drop centre where visitors can have a cup of coffee or muffin or two.
The artists behind the project say they are determined to bring art to the centre of the town - and the fun, new venue will be a world away from art stereotypes and will be a fun, welcoming space.
The Two Crows space launched earlier this month at an event supported by Prestwich poet Tony Walsh, aka Longfella.
As well as making and selling their original hand-crafted work, six resident artists - including Wigan-born illustrator Alison Erika Forde and Bury-based professional artist Lee Crocker, will deliver regular weekly workshops suitable for all ages and abilities. It will also host a weekly after-school art club.
Running for a pilot period of 8 weeks, the intention is that this project will become a permanent fixture at The Met.
The former restaurant building has been spruced up thanks to a grant from Greater Manchester Combined Authority and backing from Bury Council, which owns the building.
