‘The Guest’: Director Adam Wingard Interested In Making A Sequel Film Or Series With Dan Stevens

Things are heating up for Legendary’s Monsterverse.Last week we learned that Dan Stevens would be joining the untitled “Godzilla vs. Kong” sequel that will be filming in Australia this summer and now Legendary has announced that Matt Shakman, who has directed episodes of “Game of Thrones,” “The Boys” and all of “WandaVision,” will be helming the first two episodes of the new Monsterverse TV series for Apple TV+.Not much is known about the upcoming series, aside from the fact that it will focus on “one family’s journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch.” (Yes, Godzilla is supposed to be involved in some capacity and Toho is a co-producer.)Chris Black (“Outcast”) will serve as showrunner, with Black and comic book favorite Matt Fraction (whose “Hawkeye” comics were the basis for the recent Disney+ series) serving as executive producers.

After the success of “Godzilla vs. Kong,” released during the pandemic, the Monsterverse continues to chug along.

Amazon today unveiled the first clip from its Lena Dunham film, Catherine Called Birdy, also announcing that it will hit theaters on September 23, in advance of its Prime Video debut on October 7.

Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie, The Sopranos) has landed a leading role in the Peacock series Bupkis, a half-hour live-action comedy that tells a fictionalized version of Pete Davidson‘s life. Falco will play the role of Davidson’s mom.

McG, who has been busy producing movies for Netflix, returned to broadcast television this season with three pilots on three different networks for his Wonderland Sound and Vision banner, True Lies, based on James Cameron’s 1994 movie, on CBS; Not Dead Yet starring Gina Rodriguez on ABC; and the Jensen Ackles-produced Supernatural prequel The Winchesters on the CW. Over the last couple of days, all three were picked up to series. Additionally, BET+ just picked up Wonderland’s series Average Joe, created by Robb Cullen and starring Deon Cole.

It took an extra day but True Lies, which had been expected to get a nod yesterday, along with CBS’ other new series orders, is officially picked up to series. As Deadline reported yesterday, the reboot of James Cameron’s hit 1994 action comedy movie, from Matt Nix, MgG and 20th Television, is targeted for midseason. It joins CBS other newly picked up hourlong series, Fire Country, East New York and So Help Me Todd, which are expected to be on the fall schedule.
