EXCLUSIVE: The Gotham Group has signed Singaporean writer and director Nelicia Low ahead of the world premiere of her debut feature Pierce at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
The thriller will be the first ever Singaporean feature to compete in the main Crystal Globe Competition of the Czech festival, running from June 28 to July 6.
Set against the high intensity world of competitive fencing, the drama revolves around a young fencer who reconnects with an older brother convicted of murder.
The work taps into Low’s knowledge of the fencing world through her experience as a national champion, who represented her country before retiring to focus on filmmaking, as well as her own complex relationship with her autistic brother.
“Nelicia is a brilliant and original voice from Singapore and everyone at The Gotham Group is excited to help expand her career globally,” said said Gotham Group Partner Justin Littman, who heads the company’s International Division.
“Pierce is a staggeringly innovative film which illuminates Nelicia’s cinematic voice and lays the groundwork for a long and remarkable filmmaking career,” he added.
Pierce will have its North American premiere on July 13 at the New York Asian Film Festival in th Next/Now section which highlights emerging voices and promising works by up-and-coming directors.

Prior to completion, the feature won the 2022 LAVALabs Moving Image Award as well asa Special Mention at Talents Tokyo 2020 and participated in the 2020 Full Circle Lab and Focus Asia 2021.

K-pop agency Attrakt has announced that K-pop girl group FIFTY FIFTY will make their comeback later this year with new line-up of members.Today (June 14), the agency shared in a statement to Newsen that it had “ decided [in April] on four new members” who will join the group, adding that FIFTY FIFTY will be “starting again as a five-member group including original member Keena”, as translated by Soompi.Attrakt added that due to the need to ensure “album production quality”, FIFTY FIFTY would be returning with a new album this September rather than June as it previously planned. However, it also said that a pre-release single is already in the works.The label also discussed the success of the girl group’s 2023 viral hit ‘Cupid’, adding that “everything had to stop” before the group could achieve more due to “unfortunate news”.“Attrakt executives and staff will do their best to help FIFTY FIFTY become the best K-pop girl group by pouring sincerity and passion every day until the day of their comeback,” it said.In June 2023, the original four members of FIFTY FIFTY filed to suspend their exclusive contracts with Attrakt, which was later denied by a Seoul court.
