Warner Bros DC’s The Flash, despite tumbling down with a $55M start, will remain atop the box office with a $16.5M-$24.7M second weekend take as the marketplace largely takes a breath sans tentpoles before Disney/Lucasfilm’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny arrives for the Independent Day stretch. That weekend 2 slide for The Flash reps a 55% to 70% decline.
A lot of deja vu here for Warner Bros when it comes to The Flash. Remember Ryan Reynolds’ Green Lantern back in 2011? That was also another attempt to start a DC franchise off a deep universe character. There’s nothing wrong with that, however, lessons weren’t learned here by Warners as they spent $200M to make Green Lantern, and $200M to make The Flash — a pricetag deemed too high by sources to start a franchise. Studio accounting practices indicate it’s better to spend more on sequels, not first installments. And if you’re going to do that, you gotta cast up like Dune with marquee names that will fill seats. Green Lantern dropped 66% in weekend 2 with $18M; the pic bombing and finaling at $116.5M stateside. We could see a similar path here for The Flash.
The Flash did $5.2M on Tuesday, -14% from the Monday Juneteenth holiday take of $6.1M. Remember, it’s discount ticket pricing at most theaters on Tuesday, hence the good hold. Running five-day total is $66.4M, 5% ahead of The Green Lantern at the same point in time.
Sony is hoping to bring comedies back to the screen after they’ve been swallowed up by streaming during the pandemic with the R-Rated Gene Stupnitsky directed title No Hard Feelings starring Jenninfer Lawrence. The pic follows a young woman, Maddie, who is on the brink of losing her home who answers an ad to mentor an introverted 19-year old.

Sony/Stage 6 Films/Blumhouse’s fifthquel Insidious: The Red Door nearly locked out Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny yesterday at the box office. The Patrick Wilson starring and directed PG-13 horror film scared up $5M in previews at 2,806 locations that began showtimes at 4PM. That amount of money is very close to what Indy grossed, early estimates showing around $5.2M for the day in an awful week that ended at $94.5M for the $300M-plus grossing Disney/Lucasfilm finale sequel.
Angels Studios’ Jim Caviezel thriller, Sound of Freedom, came on strong on Tuesday givingDisney/Lucasfilm’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny a run for his money, however, until actuals are reported, it remains to be seen who won July 4th, both distributors reporting $11.5M.
Refresh for chart…On the bright side for Independence Day bomb Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, its first five days at the box office of $82M aren’t as bad as Paramount/Skydance’s Terminator Genisys.

Jazz Tangcay Artisans Editor Disney’s “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” features some of the titular hero’s most loathsome enemies — the Nazis — and it was up to military adviser Paul Biddiss to train over 300 extras to ensure the film’s battle scenes looked authentic. This fifth installment of the franchise sees James Mangold direct Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones. The year is 1969, and this time, Nazi scientist Dr. Voller (Mads Mikkelsen) is on a mission to seek out the Dial of Destiny, which he believes will “correct” Hitler’s mistakes. Fact, fiction and fascists are set against the backdrop of the space race as Voller aims to go back in time and kill Hitler, take over the Third Reich and lead Germany to victory.
Mads Mikkelsen stars opposite Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny playing Nazi scientist Dr. Jürgen Voller. The actor recently opened up about the roles that he likes to play opting to play “losers” on-screen versus “cutie pie” characters.
Refresh for latest…: Disney/Lucasfilm’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is off to a disappointing start with a $130M global opening. Of that, $70M is from 52 international box office markets as the the fifth installment in the beloved 42-year-old franchise came in below projections.
SATURDAY AM: Refresh for chart…and more analysis Disney/Lucasfilm’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is still bound to open at the bottom of end of tracking’s projection of $60M as this morning. I saw an estimate in The Flash vicinity of $55M last night and took an Alka Seltzer out of shock. Hopefully Dial of Destiny doesn’t fall apart tonight and at least stays on course for a Mission: Impossible – Fallout type opening in the $60M range over three days. That figure might be good for exhibition and popcorn sales over the five-day holiday weekend, but it stinks for a movie that has a reported cost of $250M to near $300M before P&A.

Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny has arrived in cinemas – but should you remain seated for the credits? The latest offering marks the fifth and final instalment of the franchise, and sees acting legend Harrison Ford reprise his role as the daring adventurer. With the first part of the movie being set in 1944, Dial Of Destiny kicks off with the whip-cracking archaeologist looking to retrieve one half of the Antikythera – an ancient dial built by Archimedes – from a Nazi scientist (played by Mads Mikkelsen). The remainder of the film ventures forward to 1969, where Jones partners up with his goddaughter Helena (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) to locate and retrieve the other half, and potentially alter the course of history. The Dial Of Destiny has very much been pitched as Indy’s final adventure, but fans will still be curious to know if a post-credits scene teases future possibilities for the franchise.Unlike other Disney titles, this Indy offering doesn’t feature a post-credits or mid-credits scene. So once the film ends, you’re safe to leave. The lack of any teasers perhaps shouldn’t come as a surprise, given that Ford himself has made it clear on numerous occasions that this is his final outing as Indiana Jones.“This is it! I will not fall down for you again,” the actor joked at D23 last year.“I’ll miss the people who I’ve worked with on the film – everyone at Lucasfilm, at Disney, [director] Jim Mangold, and the actors.

John Bleasdale Guest Contributor Of all the local premieres of “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” none has had quite so dramatic and apt a setting as the ancient open air Greek Theater in Taormina, Italy, where the fifth instalment of the franchise screened at the 69th Taormina Film Festival Sunday night. Fireworks lit up the night sky to the sound of John Williams’ “Indy’s March,” and the film’s title was projected on crumbling walls that date back to the third century BCE. With the active volcano Etna looming in the distance, the packed-out audience were treated to an all-star presentation, welcoming Harrison Ford to the stage with a rapturous reception.
