With the release of the first full-length Barbie movie today, cinema staff will be bracing themselves as Barbie fever hits Britain.
The dazzling technicolour live action caper starring Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, is expected to be a massive box-office hit. The film's official synopsis reads: "To live in Barbie Land is to be a perfect being in a perfect place. Unless you have a full-on existential crisis. Or you're a Ken."
Hinting at a movie with more to it than its bubble gum visuals first signs are promising, with the film scoring 89% on movie review website Rotten Tomatoes. But this isn't the first time fever for the all American doll has gripped Greater Manchester.

25-years ago, residents woke up to an entire street painted pink in honour of the fashion doll. In November 1997, Ash Street in Langworthy was transformed into a glowing spectacle, doused in luminescent paint from the chimneys down to the shocking pink windows and doors.

The terraced street in Salford had been chosen by Barbie bosses from toy company Mattel to be the epicentre of celebrations for Barbie's 38th birthday. The street was chosen in preference to a street called Pink Street in Burnley to become a piece of Barbie's world for a few weeks.
