'The Crown,' 'Mandalorian' top Emmy nominations with 24 each

The Imagen Awards on Monday revealed nominations for its 36th edition, honoring Latino talent and contributions for the year across TV, film and streaming. Winners will be revealed October 10 in a ceremony on PBSSoCal.org and KCET.org.

Leigh Janiak (Fear Street) is attached to direct two episodes of The Staircase, HBO Max’s limited series drama adaptation based on the true-crime docuseries.

Oscars -- will be handed out at a live, in-person ceremony in Los Angeles broadcast by CBS on September 19. The show -- set to feature a "limited audience of nominees and their guests" -- will mark a welcome return to some normality.

Actress Courteney Cox finally earned an Emmy nomination for "Friends." "Friends: The Reunion" was nominated Tuesday in the outstanding pre-recorded variety special category. Other shows nominated for the award include "8:46: Dave Chappelle," "A West Wing Special To Benefit When We All Vote," "Bo Burnham: Inside" and "David Byrne's American Utopia.' Cox was the only member of the "Friends" cast that had not been nominated for an Emmy until now. Other co-stars have received nominations.

Bowen Yang has made both Emmys and Saturday Night Live history.

(Very) Good morning, “Ted Lasso.” The Jason Sudeikis comedy just broke “Glee’s” record for most Emmy nominations ever for a freshman comedy.We’ll raise a cup of tea to that.“Ted Lasso” hauled in 20 nominations this year, the most for a first-year comedy. “Glee” nabbed 19 back in 2010.Overall, Apple TV+ landed 35 Emmy nominations on Tuesday.

Pose star Mj Rodriguez has made history after being nominated for Outstanding Leading Actress in a Drama Series at the 2021 Emmys.Rodriguez, who was critically acclaimed for her performance as Blanca Evangelista, is the first transgender woman to be nominated for a lead acting role.The landmark FX series followed New York City’s African-American and Latino LGBTQ and gender-nonconforming drag ball culture scene between the ’80s and late ’90s.
