The Apprentice’s fired Akshay Thakrar has revealed that his mum is “disappointed” that he failed to find love on the BBC show. The 28 year old’s luck finally ran out in this week’s task when Lord Alan Sugar sent him home after he found himself in the losing team yet again - a staggering eight times out of nine. However, Akshay, who joked he was “like a cat with nine lives”, admitted that his mum was more bothered by his lack of romance than him being the latest boardroom casualty.
Speaking to OK! and other press outlets, Akshay, who owns a Digital Marketing Agency, laughed when he was asked if he’d had any time for romance with his co-stars during his time on the show. I was too busy having a coffee at the café for any romance!” He continued to say: “I wasn’t in there looking for romance, I was looking for investment! [But] my mum was very disappointed...” However, all was not lost as Akshay went on to share that he’d made many “lifelong friends” during the process, who he now thinks of as family.
The show’s star said: “I am so grateful to have built lifelong friends from all this. Nick [Showering] and Akeem [Bundu-Kamara] for sure - we’re like brothers.” “I honestly just think we’re a good group of friends which I’m sure makes for a very boring headline, but we really do have each other’s back!” He also joked that he built a strong “bond” with Lord Sugar after finding himself in the firing line so many times.
