‘The Acolyte’: Leslye Headland Wants More Than One Season Of Her Disney+ Series: “I Definitely Pitched It As A Multi-Season Show”

The annals of unmade Christopher Nolan films are not particularly long. Perhaps one of the legendary projects mentioned in the past was Nolan’s unrealized Howard Hughes project—some brief elements of which he folded into Bruce Wayne’s recluse period in “The Dark Knight Rises.” There was also, at one point in the past, Nolan’s intentions of remaking the surreal 1960s TV series, “The Prisoner,” created by and starring Patrick McGoohan (which is loosely rumored to be among the next projects he is thinking about making post “Oppenheimer”).

While he was known for years as Christopher Nolan’s co-writer, his younger brother, Jonathan Nolan, has really taken off in recent years and made his name for himself on television. Following shows like “Person of Interest” and HBO’s “Westworld,” a series he created and led for many years, the younger Nolan is about to debut his latest show, “Fallout,” on Amazon Prime.

While kept under wraps for what seemed like years, the “Star Wars” Lucasfilm series “The Acolyte” was finally revealed last month with the first trailer that pulled back the curtain on the series. Created by “Russian Doll” writer/director Leslye Headland, also known for raunchy R-rated comedies like “Bachelorette,” the trailer teased some of its influences, such as “The Phantom Menace” (it’s set 100 years before those events, the but similarities are undeniable), noir-mysteries and little bit of “The Matrix”-style kung-fu action.

Dana Carvey, 68, has apologized to Sharon Stone for a 1992 “Saturday Night Live” skit in which she took her clothes off.Stone, 66, was a guest on the podcast “Fly on the Wall with Dana Carvey and David Spade” when Carvey brought up the sketch, which occurred when Stone hosted “SNL” in the wake of her hit movie “Basic Instinct.” Carvey said Stone “was such a good sport” because “the comedy we did in 1992 with Sharon Stone, we would literally be arrested now.”The skit in question was called the “Airport Security Sketch,” in which male airport security officers, including Carvey playing an Indian security guard, had Stone remove one item of clothing at a time — to see if she was carrying anything dangerous on her person.“I want to apologize publicly for the security check sketch where I played an Indian man and we’re convincing Sharon, her character, or whatever, to take her clothes off to go through the security thing,” Carvey told Stone — as Spade added that it was “so offensive.”Carvey cited the year of the sketch, 1992, as being “from another era,” while the “Sliver” actress chimed in that it didn’t really bother her at the time.“I know the difference between a misdemeanor and a felony,” she said. “And I think that we were all committing misdemeanors [back then] because we didn’t think there was something wrong then.

Six men were eventually arrested due to the incident. Stone said “SNL” creator Lorne Michaels “personally saved my life” when the protestors charged.

After a wait that felt like years, Lucasfilm finally unveiled the first look and trailer of the new “Star Wars” mystery thriller, “The Acolyte.” With the veil on the shadowy, secretive project lifted, the show’s creator, Leslye Headland (“Russian Doll”), could finally delve into the series’ details. In A new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Headland spoke about the series’ influences, such as “Kill Bill” and “Rashomon,” and how exactly she pitched the idea to Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy.

Largely beloved upon its arrival in 2015, George Miller’s “Mad Max: Fury Road” is now considered a 21st-century classic.
