Gene Maddaus Senior Media WriterCalifornia is getting into the “Star Wars” business, with the state committing $20.9 million in tax subsidies for a new Disney+ series called “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.”The recent “Star Wars” films have been shot in the United Kingdom, where they receive government subsidies. But four other “Star Wars” TV series, including “The Mandalorian,” have filmed in California without receiving state incentives, according to California Film Commission records.

There’s going to be some serious California financial meat on the bones of Star War series Skeleton Crew.

Yossman Denise Richards (“Paper Empire”) and AnnaLynne McCord (“90210”) are set to join “Encanto’s” Carolina Gaitàn in a new female-led drama thriller series, “Second Chance,” Variety can exclusively reveal.Alexis Ren (“Deputy”) and Tiffany Hines (“Magnum P.I.”) will also star.Set to debut worldwide later this year, “Second Chance” is a 10-part series that tells the story of three domestic cleaning workers and their clients as they struggle to overcome their pasts and grapple with the challenge of creating a better future.Gaitàn plays service worker Marianna in the series, who finds herself navigating “extraordinary and dangerous situations” alongside her two friends Shira (played by Ren) and Jackie (played by Hines).

Spearheaded by Tony Gilroy (“Michael Clayton”) — who wrote, directed, and oversaw the reshoots and editing of ‘Rogue One’— the “Andor” series follows Cassian Andor’s early rise within the Rebellion as one of its key spies during the tyrannical reign of The Empire.

David Arquette and Elizabeth Marvel are set for recurring roles opposite Betty Gilpin and Jake McDorman in Mrs. Davis, Peacock’s new drama series written and executive produced by Tara Hernandez and Damon Lindelof. Additionally, Alethea Jones (Rise of the Pink Ladies, Evil) is set to executive produce and direct multiple episodes.

But once the writers’ room wrapped, sources say creative differences led to the producers and Brady agreeing to part ways. Production on the show is slated to begin in September.Sheridan created “Lioness” under his expansive overall deal with Paramount.

Siobhan Cullen (The Dry), Robyn Cara (Trying), David Wilmot (Station Eleven) and Chris Walley (The Last Voyage of the Demeter) also feature in the seven-episode, darkly comedic thriller, which begins production in Ireland next week.
