‘Tenet’ Earns Solid $20 Million at US Box Office, Nears $150 Million Globally

Christopher Nolan's Tenet jumped the $200 million mark at the international box office over the weekend, but continues to struggle domestically without such major cities New York and Los Angeles in play. Warner Bros.

The disastrous debut of Warner Bros’ spy thriller “Tenet” at movie theaters has Hollywood studios fingering the panic button. “Tenet” — a $200 million Christopher Nolan production which has amassed less than $30 million in ticket sales since it hit US theaters on Sept.

Disney's Mulan malfunctioned in its China box office debut with a disheartening $23.2 million. The $200 million tentpole was made with both Chinese and American audiences top of mind.

The numbers are still coming in for Tenet. The Christopher Nolan film brought in USD 6.7 million domestically over the weekend for a total of USD 29.5 million thus far in its U.S.

Tenet has taken nearly £114 million ($150 million) globally at the box office following its release in the past few weeks.The much-delayed film, which stars John David Washington and Robert Pattinson, finally hit UK screens a few weeks ago, with the US following last week.Tenet has, however, been anticipated as an arbiter of the health of the cinema industry amid the coronavirus pandemic, as it is viewed as being the biggest release since cinemas re-opened over the summer.According to Variety,

Amongst the films that took a gamble and released amidst the COVID-19 pandemic was Christopher Nolan's Tenet. After weeks of back and forth to set a release date, Tenet finally got the theatrical release that Nolan was adamant on.

Tenet is doing relatively big numbers amid the pandemic at the box office.
