Teenager lurking outside prison caught with two parcels 'thought to contain phones and drugs' ... and a handful of apples

A teenager was arrested after he was caught with two parcels and a handful of apples in the countryside outside a north Manchester Prison.
The 16-year-old was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to convey articles into HMP Forest Bank, in Salford, on Sunday, February 6.
Two parcels, thought to contain drugs and phones were recovered, alongside four red apples.
Police have since confirmed that the fruit is often thrown over the fences before the items, by those hoping to illegally pass the items into prison.

The arrest came as part of 'Operation Dragonfire' - a multi-agency operation introduced to tackle to conveyance of illegal items into prisons across Greater Manchester.
The teenager remains in custody for questioning after he was followed by plain clothed police officers on duty.
A second suspect is also wanted by the force.
A post shared by Greater Manchester Police's Salford branch showed the selection of items that were retrieved, including a bag of money, two well wrapped square packages and four apples.
