A teenage boy has been detained after the discovery of homemade bomb parts inside a house - which prompted a major emergency services response and evacuations.
Police descended on a residential street in the Chorley area of Lancashire after reports that a "suspicious object" had been found at a property. A number of properties had to be evacuated and surrounding roads were closed as a precaution, Lancs Live reports.
The incident was first reported at around 3.40pm on Thursday (May 5). Army bomb squad officers were called to the scene and several police officers were seen wearing full body armour as they inspected the object 'believed to be the component parts of an improvised explosive device (IED)'.

Police said the device was deemed 'not viable' following examinations and there was 'no immediate threat to the public'. The scene was stood down at around 8pm and no injuries were reported.
A 16-year-old boy was on suspicion of possessing a knife/bladed article and an offence under the Explosives Act. He remains in custody for questioning.
A Lancashire Police spokesman said: "We were called to an address in Kirkstall Close, Chorley, following reports a suspicious object had been found. Officers, including our colleagues from the military, attended and found what are believed to be the component parts of an improvised explosive device (IED).
"However, examinations have revealed that the device was not viable and there was no immediate threat to the public. A cordon was established around the address, a small number of nearby properties were evacuated and surrounding roads were closed as a precaution.
