If there’s one tour where Ticketmaster was presumably hoping that there would be no technical glitches as tickets went on sale, it was surely the European leg of Taylor Swift’s ongoing The Eras Tour. Given that all the issues that occurred last year around ticket sales for the US dates put the spotlight very much back on the ticketing business in American political circles. And yet, there were issues yesterday as tickets went on sale for Swift’s dates in France next summer.
Fifteen minutes in, Ticketmaster France tweeted that “some of you may be having issues with the site this morning – we are working on it and will let you know”. Sales were then subsequently put on hold entirely as problems continued.Ticketmaster subsequently stated that: “This morning’s sale was disrupted by an issue with a third-party vendor who is working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
As soon as we saw fans having problems, the queues were put on hold”.Fans had to sign up in advance to buy tickets, with codes then being distributed by ballot to allow actual purchases. Ticketmaster added that any codes not used yesterday will remain valid when sales resume.

“Eras Tour” has attracted enough fans to help boost hotel and restaurant revenue in cities across the world, and even contribute to concert ticket inflation, a phenomenon that some economists have termed “Swiftflation.”“Recently, Taylor Swift became the very first woman in history to have four albums in the top 10 simultaneously, including this week’s number one,” the company’s chief executive, Lucian Grainge, told analysts on a conference call.Universal Music’s merchandising revenue grew 12% to 157 million euros ($173.77 million) in the April-June period, also fueled by a strong performance from Swift, the group said. This more than offset a decline in Universal Music Group’s touring revenue from the outsized growth recorded in 2022 as COVID-19 touring bans were lifted, it added.Total revenue was 2.7 billion euros in the quarter, while its margin on adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) stood at 21.9%, the company reported.Universal Music expects recent price increases at Spotify to boost revenue starting from the fourth quarter and into 2024, its chief financial officer, Boyd Muir, said on the conference call.Spotify had on Monday raised prices for its premium plans across several countries including the US and Britain.Major labels like Universal Music grab the overwhelming majority of Spotify’s revenue and are the main beneficiaries of the streaming firm’s strong user growth.Apart from Swift, other top sellers in the second quarter were South Korean boy band Seventeen, King & Prince, Morgan Wallen, and Stray Kids, Universal Music said.
A drive-in movie theatre in the US has announced a week of events celebrating Taylor Swift, in an effort to finally convince her to acknowledge that it is its screen that appears in the lyric video to her 2020 single ‘This Is Me Trying’.Drive-in 32 in Greenville, New York inadvertently ended up in the lyric video thanks to a short piece of stock footage that the venue had seemingly been unaware of until it was used by Swift’s team.“Somewhere during the winter of either 2018 or 2019, an overseas-based freelance photographer entered our property without permission and began filming”, the cinema’s management explain in a new Instagram post. “He then placed that footage with Shutterstock advertising [it] as ‘abandoned upstate NY drive-in theatre’”.“Someone in Taylor’s creative team purchased a $75 license from the stock agency for the footage, enlarged it, slowed it down, stitched together fourteen loops of the original eleven second clip and then added the lyrics on our screen”, they go on.
