Despite the immense popularity and success it brought him, Taylor Lautner has expressed some regrets about his role in the Twilight franchise. During a recent discussion on his podcast, The Squeeze, which he co-hosts with his wife Taylor Dome Lautner, the 30 year old actor discussed how much work he had to put in to achieve his chiselled look in the film, and the lasting impact that had on his body image.
According to Taylor, he developed a resistance to the gym after the Twilight franchise ended, having spent several hours a day there to maintain his "werewolf" physique. He was content playing characters with less impressive physiques until he came across online comparisons of his less shredded roles to Jacob Black, which were not so flattering.
He shared: "Then I saw these online comparisons, side-by-side pictures of me shirtless in the ocean from that movie compared to me in Eclipse or other films, and people were saying, 'Wow, he's let himself go.' It made me question, 'Did I really let myself go?' I didn't think I looked that bad." The fixation on his body continued for years and would “come in waves." As a result, Taylor admitted on the podcast that he has struggled with body image for a decade. He added: “It messed with me and it hurt." The criticism of his changed body took a toll on Taylor's mental health.
However, he has since learned not to associate the so-called "perfect body" with happiness, and he encourages his podcast listeners to do the same. The star also recently opened up about encountering hurtful comments regarding his appearance while reading the comment section of a recent Instagram post. In a video responding to the comments, Taylor explained: “I just got back from a run.
