EJ Panaligan editorManta Comics, a prominent webcomics platform, announced the expansion of its library of mystery and thriller titles with the release of “Svaha: The Sixth Finger,” a webcomic adaptation of the popular South Korean film.“Svaha” was initially released as a film in 2019 from director Jae-hyun Jang. The plot involves a cult-hunting pastor, a girl’s dead body with a talisman, and the search for truth behind the mysterious “Deer Mount” cult.
The film also starred Squid Game lead Lee Jung-jae as Pastor Park, a man who works to expose cults.Manta’s webcomic version will follow Woongjae, a greedy pastor with a spending problem who takes up a case to investigate a cult when the gig promises a hefty sum. As he dives deeper into the case, Woongjae is faced with horrors and mysteries that leave him questioning his faith altogether.
Fans are able to view all 25 webcomic episodes, including a prologue of “Svaha,” now on the Manta app.Manta’s extensive library features stories about knights and dragons, finding love with college rivals and more. The platform has recently been making efforts to expand its mystery and thriller library.“Bringing amazing stories to Manta is our number one goal, and using web comics to elaborate on the world that “Svaha” created on screen is a wonderful opportunity,” said Moonseok Jeong, head of content at Manta Comics.In support of the release of “Svaha,” Manta Comics is presenting a “Mystery & Thriller Weekend” campaign from Aug.
18-21, during which “Svaha” and six other webcomic titles will be made free to binge. The six additional titles are “Confessions,” “A Small Lie,” “Let’s Kill Your Husband,” “The Invitation,” “Justified Murder” and “The Paper Menagerie – The Regular.”

K.J. Yossman Ann-Helén Laestadius’ novel “Stolen” is getting a Netflix adaptation. Elle Márjá Eira (“The Sámi Have Rights”) is set to direct the feature based on a screenplay by Peter Birro (“Monica Z”). Laestadius will exec produce. “Stolen” will be Eira’s feature film debut. The film, about a young indigenous woman’s struggle in the face of xenophobia, climate change and the patriarchy, will go into production in Sápmi next year and is set to premiere in 2024. “I am over the moon!” said Laestadius. “For me as an author it is of course a dream to see my book adapted into a film and reach a whole new audience across the world. And I’m incredibly happy that Netflix – with their reach – chooses to highlight a Sami story in a big way.”

Diary Of A Murderer is getting an English-language feature film adaptation.The original novella by acclaimed South Korean author Kim Young-ha follows a former serial killer diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, causing him to suffer from rapidly worsening memory loss. When the emergence of new killings mimicking the modus operandi of his murders from decades ago threatens to end his now-peaceful life with his daughter, he plans one final kill before he loses his memory completely.Mammoth Pictures, the production company behind horror-thriller The Night, was reported by Deadline on August 17 to have acquired both film and television rights to the book, with the company’s creative director Kourosh Ahari (The Night, Parallel) set to direct.With a screenplay written by Henry Chaisson, who previously wrote Antlers and Servant, the upcoming Diary Of A Murderer film will mark the first production under the new deal.
Hunt will get a US theatrical release in December.On August 15, Deadline reported that film distributor Magnolia Pictures has acquired US rights to the South Korean film Hunt and is currently planning a December theatrical release.The spy-action film notably marks the directorial debut of veteran actor Lee Jung-jae, who gained significant international recognition for his role in Netflix’s 2021 hit series Squid Game. He also wrote the screenplay for Hunt, which is set in the ’80s at the height of South Korea’s military dictatorship.Lee also stars in the film alongside with Jung Woo-sung as intelligence agents tasked with hunting down a North Korean spy embedded in their agency.
