Darren Young insists Dale Carrick’s form is no surprise – because he’s working so hard in training.
Former Hearts striker Carrick took his season’s tally to 17 with a double in Inverness last Saturday as Binos fell to 3-2 Scottish Cup defeat to their higher-level rivals.
Carrick is also third in the top scorer charts for League Two – with his 10 goals sitting him just behind Kane Hester of Elgin City and Tommy Goss of Annan Athletic on 12. And gaffer Young (above) admitted he was pleased to finally get the chance to work with Carrick after trying to attract him to previous clubs. The Binos boss also hailed his fellow forwards for striking up a quality partnership.
He said: “Dale has always been a really good striker and I’ve looked to try and get him before but I couldn’t afford him at that time.
“He’s a great guy off the park as a person, he works so hard on it and looks after himself.
“And we’ve brought in Kai [Fotheringham] and Thommo [Robert Thomson] and that’s been a good combination up there.
“With Dale and Thommo, it’s great to see how hard they work for each other and they are not selfish – it just happens to be that Dale is the one benefiting from the chances.
“Dale is in after sessions doing some shooting practice or extra work and that shows up on the park – he offers a great example in how hard he works.”
This week takes Albion back on league duty and to the other side of the country with a long trip to Stranraer, who drew 1-1 with Annan at home at the weekend.
The sides last met at Forthbank back in September - with Albion coming out 4-1 winners after a rapid start which saw all five goals scored before the break.
Young added: “They will have a point to prove and we must be ruthless at both ends.
“We got off to a quick
