Prince Harry, Meghan Markle ‘reached out’ to Kate Middleton before her Trooping the Colour appearance, ‘desperate’ to mend feud: report

her defiant return to the spotlight at last week’s Trooping the Colour ceremony, according to a report.Middleton, 42, delighted fans on Saturday by joining the royal family for King Charles’ birthday celebrations on the Buckingham Palace balcony.Despite not having seen the Princess of Wales since news of her cancer diagnosis came to light, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have reportedly extended an olive branch to the royal.“Both Harry and Meghan have been following Kate’s recovery with huge interest, but sadly it’s had to be more from afar because their lines of communication with the palace and the Waleses, in particular, are very limited, to say the least,” a source told Closer.“They have had enough information to know that people are excited about the idea of a comeback for Kate and they’re both relieved and happy to hear that she’s on the mend and may soon be well enough to return to her duties.”“They’ve jointly reached out to send well wishes, but they’re still not really in a place with Kate to warrant much of a response,” the insider said, adding that this “hasn’t stopped them from trying to connect.”“When Kate gets back into action, their hope is that it might take some of the heat off them and possibly trigger a truce with her and William, and with the King, too,” the source claimed. While Harry has been on home soil twice this year, he has not met up with his estranged brother Prince William and his wife.Instead, the Duke only saw his estranged father, King Charles, in February.

Andrew McCarthy’s Hulu Docu ‘Brats’ Has Carl Kurlander Thinking Again About The Lingering Smoke From ‘St. Elmo’s Fire:’ Guest Column

Editor’s Note: Journalist David Blum might have forever coined The Brat Pack era, but it was Carl Kurlander who provided the reason the infamous New York article got written. St. Elmo’s Fire was a script Kurlander wrote with director Joel Schumacher, inspired by events in his life. Now an academic, Kurlander has written several guest columns for Deadline including a 35th anniversary remembrance of St. Elmo’s Fire. Why is he tapping again into those memories? He just watched Brats, the Hulu documentary that premiered at Tribeca, directed by and starring Andrew McCarthy. He was part of the St. Elmo’s Fire ensemble that felt maligned by a mag article published the week before the film was released and became a surprise hit. Here, Kurlander supplies some great dish — did you know Demi Moore‘s drug demons almost forced Joel Schumacher to replace her with the young singer Madonna? Or that Georgetown shunned the movie for immoral activity but OK’d The Exorcist because despite the vile goings on involving a possessed child, evil didn’t win? A little of that stuff would have helped McCarthy’s docu, which gets tedious as he attempts to expunge demons, even as cohorts like Moore, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez and Ally Sheedy seem to be humoring him on camera. After all, that film launched fine futures for them, even if the moniker stung. McCarthy paints journo Blum as a villain, but in fairness, The Brat Pack was a far more clever coinage than putting “gate” on the end of every scandal since Watergate. Blum also unwittingly etched into permanent Hollywood history the memory of those actors when they were young and gorgeous. Who wants to be forgotten?

Andrew McCarthy says ‘Brat Pack’ stigma gave him PTSD — but other ‘80s stars don’t necessarily agree

Hollywood’s Brat Pack.”Reading it today, David Blum’s article about hanging out with a group of movie stars with the world — and many women — at their feet as they hit Hollywood clubs and sow their wild oats seems tame and fun.But for McCarthy, now 61, the “Brat Pack” label ghettoized and diminished the actors, who were part of a talented new generation of young stars heating up the box office with movies like “St. Elmo’s Fire” — considered the pre-eminent Brat Pack film — “The Breakfast Club,” “Taps,” “The Outsiders,” “Pretty in Pink,” “About Last Night,” “Sixteen Candles” and others.“Oh f–k,” was McCarthy’s first reaction to seeing the cover story, as he reveals in “BRATS,” a new documentary he wrote, directed and stars in.“I just thought that was terrible instantly.

Kneecap explain their decision to play The Great Escape over boycott: “You can’t de-platform yourself”

Kneecap have discussed their reasons for not participating in the boycott of The Great Escape last month.Over 100 artists pulled out of the Brighton festival over its sponsorship by Barclays, which has been accused of financial ties to companies arming Israel. However, the bank claims it is “trading in shares of listed companies in response to client instruction or demand”.The Irish rap trio’s decision was caused some controversy online given that they have always taken a stand against what they call Israel’s “occupation and genocide” of Gaza. They helped to raise nearly £100,000 for a volunteer gym in the Aida Refugee Camp in Palestine and spoken publicly about it via social media and a message shared after a high-profile appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. They have also made headlines for ignoring Irish public broadcaster RTÉ’s requests to not wear pro-Palestine badges.Kneecap did participate in the boycott of SXSW (after the UK government withdrew arts funding to get them to get there; resulting in a legal battle) after discovering the US military was supporting the festival.
