‘Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back’ is getting a 4K re-release in cinemas

There are plenty of intriguing “what if” casting stories in Hollywood, where now-known actors auditioned for roles that they didn’t get, before the movie ended up being incredibly successful. There’s Jake Gyllenhaal auditioning for “Lord of the Rings,” Gwyneth Paltrow in “Jurassic Park” or Kurt Russell‘s auditioning to play Han Solo.

Unfortunately for “Star Wars” fans in the U.K., Disney is scrapping plans to release a 4K version of “The Empire Strikes Back” in theaters. Just a couple of weeks ago the company had announced that it would re-release the remastered edition of the film as U.K.

Captain Marvel star Brie Larson has revealed that she once auditioned for a role in a Star Wars movie.The actor was speaking as she launched her new YouTube channel this week, discussing old auditions.During the 20-minute video, Larson revealed that she has tried out for a number of era-defining movies.Discussing her auditions that proved unsuccessful, she said: “I auditioned for Star Wars too,” though not revealing which film she tried out for.

Disney has scrapped its plans to release a 4K version of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back in UK cinemas.The company had planned to screen the ultra HD version of the 1980 film as cinemas in the country reopened following the coronavirus-induced lockdown.It would have been the first time the 4K version of the movie had been shown in cinemas, but will no longer be shown after talks between Disney and potential exhibitors broke down, according to Variety.

As part of an effort to help U.K. cinemas reopen following the coronavirus pandemic, “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back” will become the first film in the original trilogy to screen in 4K.
