Fall Out Boy have updated Billy Joel’s We Didn’t Start The Fire for some reason

Fall Out Boy have released an updated version of Billy Joel’s song ‘We Didn’t Start The Fire’ in order to, I don’t know, highlight how lists are still a thing, or something.Joel’s original song was released as a single in 1989 and listed 118 people and events from politics, culture, science and sport that had proven notable between 1949, the year when Joel was born, and the year of the track’s release. So, your first verse goes like this: “Harry Truman, Doris Day, Red China, Johnnie Ray, South Pacific, Walter Winchell, Joe DiMaggio, Joe McCarthy, Richard Nixon, Studebaker, Television, North Korea, South Korea, Marilyn Monroe, Rosenbergs, H-Bomb, Sugar Ray, Panmunjom, Brando, The King And I, and The Catcher In The Rye, Eisenhower, Vaccine, England’s got a new queen, Marciano, Liberace, Santayana goodbye”.Anyway, it’s now 34 years since Joel released the song. So, to mark this, erm, milestone, Fall Out Boy have recorded a new version, listing significant things that have happened since 1989.

Marvel Used AI to Create ‘Secret Invasion’ Opening Credits, EP Says It Fits the ‘Shape-Shifting’ Plot

Zack Sharf Digital News Director Marvel’s “Secret Invasion” is causing a stir on social media after one of the series’ executive producers, Ali Selim, confirmed to Polygon that artificial intelligence was used to create the series’ opening credits sequence. Selim explained the decision to use AI felt right given the plot of “Secret Invasion,” which follows Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) as he uncovers shape-shifting Skrulls who have gained positions of power across the Earth by appearing as human world leaders. The opening credits, designed by Method Studios, is a montage of moving paintings that depict the Skrulls’ invasion of Earth. “When we reached out to the AI vendors, that was part of it — it just came right out of the shape-shifting, Skrull world identity, you know? Who did this? Who is this?” Selim said, while also admitting he doesn’t “really understand” how AI works.

Samuel L. Jackson Stands by Brie Larson Against Toxic Marvel Fans: ‘Incel Dudes Who Hate Strong Women’ Won’t Destroy Her

Zack Sharf Digital News Director Samuel L. Jackson stood up for his Marvel co-star Brie Larson during a recent interview with Rolling Stone in which the Nick Fury actor was asked about Larson being the target of toxic Marvel fans on social media. The two actors headlined 2019’s “Captain Marvel,” which was review bombed by trolls for featuring Larson’s female superhero in a leading role. Jackson called Larson a “stronger person than people give her credit for.” Jackson and Larson first met during the making of “Kong: Skull Island,” and then she cast him in a supporting role in her feature directorial debut “Unicorn Store.” Their bond led her to consult with him when Marvel Studios and Disney offered her the role of Captain Marvel.

It’s even harder not to suspect that Val might show up again in Jackson’s new Disney+ series, “Secret Invasion.” But he won’t say anything about that possibility — in fact, he’s not ready to talk about Val at all yet.

Jack Kirby’s son criticises Marvel’s new Stan Lee documentary

Disney+‘s new documentary on Stan Lee.The new film, titled Stan Lee, looks at the late comic artist’s rise to prominence, though in a new statement, Kirby’s son labelled the movie “Stan Lee’s greatest tribute to himself”.Kirby was well known for helping to create a number of well-known Marvel characters, including Captain America, Iron Man, the Fantastic Four and Black Panther.“It’s not any big secret that there has always been controversy over the parts that were played in the creation and success of Marvel’s characters,” Neal Kirby said in a statement shared by his daughter Jillian. My father Neal Kirby (Jack Kirby’s son) has asked me to post this written statement in response to the Stan Lee documentary released yesterday on Disney+. pic.twitter.com/V4be2xyEJg— Jillian Kirby (Granddaughter of Jack Kirby) (@Kirby4Heroes) June 17, 2023“Stan Lee had the fortunate circumstance to have access to the corporate megaphone and media, and he used these to create his own mythos as to the creation of the Marvel character pantheon.

‘Stan Lee’ Documentary Slammed by Jack Kirby’s Son: ‘Are We to Assume Lee Had a Hand in Creating Every Marvel Character?’

McKinley Franklin editor Neal Kirby, son of the seminal Marvel Comics artist and writer Jack Kirby, has shared a statement expressing his distaste with Disney+’s new documentary spotlighting the life of Stan Lee. Credited as one of the leading creators of Marvel Comics, Lee’s life and legacy are given a detailed exploration through the doc, which premiered on the streamer on June 16. Kirby released a skeptical statement about the film through the Twitter account of his daughter, Jillian Kirby. “It should be noted and is generally accepted that Stan Lee had a limited knowledge of history, mythology, or science,” Kirby wrote. “On the other hand, my father’s knowledge of these subjects, to which I and many others can personally attest, was extensive. Einstein summed it up better; ‘More the knowledge, lesser the ego. Lesser the knowledge, more the ego.’”

pic.twitter.com/V4be2xyEJgThe 13th century Islamic poet/scholar Rumi said, ‘The ego is a veil between humans and God.’ In the Disney+ documentary bio of Stan Lee, the veil is lifted. Presented in the first person with Lee’s voice providing a running narrative, it is Stan Lee’s greatest tribute to himself. The literary expression of ego is the personal pronoun ‘I.’ Any decent English or journalism teacher would admonish their students not to overuse it.

Samuel L. Jackson Excels in ‘Secret Invasion,’ Marvel’s Potent New Series: TV Review

Daniel D'Addario Chief TV Critic Samuel L. Jackson has been perhaps uniquely enriched by the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Headliners like Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson may come and go, but, as the indefatigable Avengers ringmaster Nick Fury, he sticks around, bringing both his talent at a certain portent and the star persona that preceded him into the role to bear. His performance is a backbeat across the franchise, but it’s, to this point, never emerged into the spotlight. Which is among the elements that may make “Secret Invasion,” Disney+’s new Marvel series, particularly potent for fans. That Jackson excels when given the chance to lead a project comes as no meaningful surprise: He’s Samuel L. Jackson. But, in the show’s first two episodes, he’s a part of a show that makes a case for itself as, specifically, television, which is a fairly welcome surprise for a brand that’s had mixed results in this arena.

‘Stan Lee’ Review: Marvel Pays Tribute to Its Comic Book Legend

selectively focuses on the comic book legend’s career and, to a much lesser extent, his personal life, pruning considerable information about his other ventures and legal disputes as seen on Wikipedia. It’s co-produced by Marvel Studios, so the film, which receives its world premiere at Tribeca Festival and streams on Disney Plus on June 16, expectedly sings his praises.   Lee himself posthumously supplies the first-person voiceover narration, albeit indirectly through various archival interviews and speeches given over the years, which filmmaker David Gelb (“Jiro Dreams of Sushi”) has carefully spliced together based on the chronology of seminal events in his lifetime. To illustrate the narration, Gelb has employed conventional archival footage and photos as well as not-so-conventional comic strips and clay figures.
