Matt Damon has been hit by a wave of backlash after the release of his new TV commercial shilling cryptocurrency, and the controversy did not escape the eyes of “South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

No celebrity is ever safe from being skewered by the creators of South Park. Matt Damon just happened to find himself in Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s crossfire once again after they dragged him in their 2004 film Team America. During South Park’s season 25 premiere on Wednesday (January 2), the writers poked fun at Matt for his Super Bowl commercial touting Crypto.com, which debuted in October. The “fortune favors the brave” ad, which equates crypto investing to famous human achievements throughout history, has been widely panned since its release, and now Cartman & company are getting in the mix.

South Park took aim at Matt Damon’s recent cryptocurrency advert as it kicked off its new season this week.The first episode of the animated series’ 25th season saw Cartman mocking the actor, who compared being a crypto investor to an array of milestones in human achievement in the advert before signing off by saying: “Fortune favours the brave.”After his class loses its privilege to wear PJs on the school’s pyjamas day, Cartman says: “What does Matt Damon say in the Bitcoin commercial? ‘Fortune favours the brave!’”Clyde then responds with: “My dad said he listened to Matt Damon and lost all his money.” Cartman counters: “Yes, everyone did! But, they were brave in doing so!”The long-running Comedy Central animation returned this week with weekly episodes for the first time since 2019, apart from two standalone specials which were broadcast in September 2020 and March 2021.Last year, the animated show was renewed through to season 30 with 14 original films based on the series also ordered for production.The first film, titled South Park: Post COVID, saw Cartman, Stan, Kyle and Kenny attempting to re-adjust back to normal society and was released in November. South Park: Post COVID: The Return Of COVID followed in December, and was a direct continuation of the previous special which jumped 40 years into the future to depict adult versions of boys.

Dolly Parton has joined forces with Kelly Clarkson for a “haunting” new version of ‘9 To 5’, it’s been revealed.As Variety reports, the pair recorded a collaborative take on Parton’s classic 1980 single for an upcoming documentary called Still Working 9 To 5.The film, which is co-directed/produced by Gary Lane, is due to premiere at this year’s SXSW in Austin, Texas.Per an official description, Still Working 9 To 5 “examines the 40-year evolution of gender inequality and discrimination in the workplace” since 1980”.It added: “[It] explores why workplace inequality 40 years later was never a laughing matter.”“We could do a documentary just on the making of the duet,” Lane told Variety of Parton and Clarkson’s team-up.Speaking of how the new version of ‘9 To 5’ differs from the much-loved original, co-director/producer Camille Hardman explained: “The first iteration, Dolly’s original version was very upbeat. There was a lot of hope I would say in the song.“And this version is just a little bit melancholic,” she said, acknowledging the film’s themes of inequality.Lane went on to tell the outlet that Parton had dubbed the new collaboration ‘9 To 5: The Slow Version’, saying that it’s “definitely slowed down and more haunting”.
