Sony Pictures Classic Swoops for Pedro Almodóvar’s ‘Madres Paralelas’

Mónica Marie Zorrilla HBO Max has given a series order to the family-friendly comedy “Gordita Chronicles” that hails from Sony Pictures TV, Zoe Saldana’s Cinestar Pictures and Osprey Productions.The Latino-focused series stars Diana-Maria Riva (“Dead to Me,” “Telenovela”), Juan Javier Cardenas (“Snowfall,” “9-1-1: Lone Star”) and Olivia Goncalves (“Scooter McGruder”).Claudia Forestieri (“Good Trouble,” “Selena: The Series”), wrote the pilot and Eva Longoria directed.

Both will expand in the weeks after their debuts, with Lost Leonardo going nationwide.

Sony sold 3.3 million PlayStation 5 consoles in the final quarter of fiscal 2020, bringing its full-year tally up to 7.8 million. Sony Pictures Classics has taken all rights in North America, Australia and New Zealand to Pedro Almodóvar’s Madres Paralelas, repping the 13th collaboration between the distributor and the filmmaker’s production company El Deseo. Production began last month on the film in Madrid. The movie also reunites the director with longtime collaborators Penélope Cruz, Julieta Serrano and Rossy de Palma.
