Sarah Lancashire is reportedly hanging up her acting boots to try something entirely different - working behind the camera.The A-list actress first shot to fame as Raquel Wolstenhulme on Coronation Street from 1991 until 1996, before briefly returning in 2000. Over the years she's become one of Britain's best-loved actresses, even snagging a BAFTA nomination this week for her role as Police Sergeant Catherine Cawood in the BBC drama Happy Valley.

Brian Steinberg Senior TV Editor Hallie Jackson is taking NBC’s venerable “Nightly News” to Washington D.C. for one night each week. The NBC News senior Washington correspondent has been named the new anchor of NBC’s Sunday evening-news broadcast, taking the reins from Kate Snow.

Leo Barraclough International Features Editor Paris-based film sales agency Cat&Docs has acquired “Kamay,” the debut feature documentary from filmmakers Ilyas Yourish and Shahrokh Bikaran. The film will world premiere at Visions du Réel, which runs in Nyon, Switzerland, April 12-24. Variety has been given exclusive access to the trailer (below).

Another couple from The Valley bites the dust!

Naman Ramachandran Ken Kwek’s acclaimed Singaporean film “#LookAtMe” has secured North American distribution with Buffalo 8. The deal is exclusive for the North American territory and non-exclusive for the rest of the world. The film is a tragicomedy following the family of a teenage YouTuber who posts an irreverent video lampooning a megachurch pastor in defense of his gay twin brother.

Jaden Thompson “Vanderpump Rules” producer Alex Baskin has tapped Joe Kingsley and Jeff Festa to join the creative executive team of his new company, 32 Flavors. He recruited both Kingsley and Festa from Evolution Media, his former company, where they all previously worked on unscripted projects together.

Starz has greenlit Down in the Valley, a documentary series inspired by the hit series P-Valley from executive producers Katori Hall and Nicco Annan. Hall is the creator of P-Valley and Annan has starred as Uncle Clifford since the show’s inception. The project will debut later this year.

Moviegoers will likely recognize Brittany Snow‘s name from films like “X,” “John Tucker Must Die,” and the “Pitch Perfect” series. But the longtime actress is now a full-fledged director, and her feature debut is ready to hit theaters after its world premiere at SXSW last year.

Christopher Vourlias Akin Omotoso, the filmmaker behind Disney Plus’ Giannis Antetokounmpo biopic “Rise,” has been attached to direct “The Plot to Save South Africa,” an adaptation of Justice Malala’s gripping book about a 1990s white supremacist plot that almost plunged the young democracy into civil war. “The Plot to Save South Africa” will be produced by Johannesburg-based production outfit Ochre Moving Pictures, which signed a deal with Netflix last year to adapt multiple books for the streaming service alongside Omotoso.

Happy Valley, Slow Horses and BBC drama The Sixth Commandment dominate the nominations for this year’s Broadcasting Press Guild (BPG) Awards, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary.

EXCLUSIVE: Vertical has acquired North American rights to Parachute, the romantic drama marking the directorial debut of actress Brittany Snow (X), which won multiple awards in its debut at SXSW 2023, recognizing Snow and star Courtney Eaton (Yellowjackets). The film from Yale Productions, also starring Thomas Mann (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl), is set to open in select theaters on April 5.

Elsa Keslassy International Correspondent Michael Fassbender is in negotiations to star in “The Department,” an espionage thriller series directed by George Clooney. Set to start shooting in London this spring, “The Department” is based on “The Bureau,” the hit French spy show created by Eric Rochant. It has already been given a straight-to-series order by Showtime.

Naman Ramachandran “Slave Play” writer Jeremy O. Harris feels confident that casting “Game of Thrones” star Kit Harington in the production’s West End run won’t be a “distraction.” In a new interview with The Guardian, Harris said Harington was recommended to him by “Game of Thrones” star Gwendoline Christie and he would not have agreed to his casting if Harington had wanted to “make it the Jon Snow experience.” “Kit was saying ‘I don’t want this to be Kit Harington in ‘Slave Play,” this is an ensemble play and I’m not even the lead,’” Harris said.
