Small North Carolina town mourns its 1st police officer killed in line of duty

Tony Rice, the master bluegrass picker who drew fans worldwide for the chance to hear the quick, fluid sounds he conjured from his storied Martin D-28 guitar, has died at age 69.Rice died Friday at his home in Reidsville, North Carolina, according to International Bluegrass Music Association spokesperson Casey Campbell, who did not immediately provide additional details.

The death of a North Carolina teenager on Tuesday has led police to investigate whether she may have been the victim of human trafficking. The Greenville Police Department said officers responded to a report of an apparent overdose at the Baymont Inn. First responders were unable to save the victim, a 16-year-old girl, police said.

A high school English instructor and creative writing teacher in North Carolina has filed a lawsuit against Netflix’s Outer Banks citing copyright infringement.

Another critics group has weighed in today, as the precursor season continues. This one is the North Carolina Film Critics Association, and their nominees highlighted a contender that’s currently doing a bit better than expected.

An 8-year-old boy died Sunday after he was accidentally shot with a BB or pellet gun while playing with another child in North Carolina, according to authorities.  The incident occurred Sunday at a home in the Stony Point community, located about 55 miles north of Charlotte, according to a news release by the Alexander County Sheriff's Office.
