Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) has been known to change our moods as the days get colder and darker, but did you know it can also affect your skin, too? From breakouts to increased sensitivity and dryness, there are plenty of different conditions that can be caused, or exacerbated by, the colder weather. Since we’re already well into autumn and with winter not far behind it, there’s no time like the present to tackle those SAD skin issues with the help of beauty retailer Justmylook’s skincare expert, Hayley Walker.
Hayley gave us the low down on how your mood can impact your skin, and how best to tackle the different skin conditions that can be caused by SAD or seasonal depression. What is SAD? In case you weren’t familiar with it, SAD is caused by the change in seasons, with Google searches for seasonal depression up 184% over the past three months as the days get shorter and colder.
Although it’s known for mainly affecting our moods, it can also have an impact on our complexions, too. Why does it affect our skin? Hayley said: “Symptoms of SAD include feelings of depression, changes in appetite, and low energy.
This change in mood can also impact our skin.
The lack of Vitamin D during the colder, darker months, along with the increased stress, can trigger a breakout and other skin conditions, such as rosacea.” The chemical imbalance caused by depression can actually prevent your body from repairing itself, leading to breakouts, dry skin and new skin conditions to arise Hayley also added: “If you’re going through a period of stress or trauma, your skin can feel the effects of it and becomes prone to flare-ups of any existing skin conditions.

Jem Aswad Executive Editor, Music Four hours and 22 minutes is a long time to be doing anything except sleeping, even watching a state-of-the-art Rock and Roll Hall of Fame awards show that included Willie Nelson, Elton John, Sheryl Crow, Jimmy Page, Stevie Nicks and many more. Yet it’s a testament to the almost superhuman talent and vision of Missy Elliott that as the show hit the four-hour mark, she had the entire audience out of their seats for a visually and musically explosive medley of her greatest hits — including “Get Ur Freak On,” “The Rain” and the closer, “Lose Control” — as she rocked the stage in an all-gold glitter suit accompanied by rappers, a DJ, approximately 30 lithely limbed dancers and an eye-popping video presentation that spanned the entire width of the Barclays Center floor.
