And my relationship with them is practically non-existent." He revealed to the Irish Independent that his acting career always took precedence over his family life. Patrick added "not a day goes by" in which he is "not pained by the memory of my children", expressing guilt that they "became who they are in part because of me and my influence or lack of influence on them".
Patrick's son, Daniel, has followed in his father's footsteps and has worked as an actor performing Shakespeare on stage as well as appearing in Law and Order: Special Victims Unit and Silent Witness. However, after finding out his son had copied his career choice, Patrick said he was "horrified".
