Duffy, the distinctive Welsh singer who rose to fame with the 2008 album Rockferry and its globally successful lead single "Mercy," wrote on Instagram earlier that she was "raped and drugged and held captive over some days" by an unspecified person.

Singer-songwriter Duffy opened up to her fans in a lengthy post shared on Instagram and explained why she decided to take a break from the spotlight a decade ago. The 35-year-old singer posted a black and white picture of herself on Instagram, and bared her soul in the caption.

NEW YORK -- Grammy-winning singer Duffy says she’s been out of the public limelight for years to focus on recovering from being “drugged and raped and held captive over some days.”

British singer Duffy spoke out for the first time in years on her Instagram on Tuesday, and said her disappearance from the spotlight happened after she was raped, drugged and held captive for days.

For nearly the last decade, Duffy has stayed mostly out of the spotlight. Now, the singer has shared a harrowing reason for her absence.  35-year-old Grammy winner Aimee Duffy, known by fans solely by her last name, took to Instagram on Tuesday and posted a single picture to her otherwise bare account.

Duffy, the Welsh singer behind the songs "Mercy," "Well, Well, Well" and "Rain on Your Parade," is speaking out about an abduction she says contributed to her disappearance from the public eye.
