If you've been softening your butter in the microwave - like pretty much the rest of us - it looks like you may have been doing it all wrong in the first place.
It might seem like an easy thing to do, but softening butter is one of those kitchen tricks that is a lot harder than you'd immediately think.
Let's face it, how many times have you ended up with a bowl of yellow liquid instead of actual butter?
Well, it looks like that watery liquid may be a thing of the past, as a recipe blog on social media has shared their own hack on the best way to soften your butter - and it doesn't involve the microwave.
Turns out, all you really need is a warm glass and you're good to go.
The new nifty kitchen trick was shared to the Easy Daily Recipes Facebook page, reports The Manchester Evening News.
The post read: "One of the best baking tips ever. If you need to soften butter quickly but don't want to MELT it, Put boiling hot water in a glass to heat the glass. Dump the water out and flip it over your stick of butter. In a few minutes it will be perfectly soft to use!
You're welcome!"
Understandably, the neat trick has gone viral since it was posted, and with 111,000 likes and 13,000 comments it has divided the internet on the best way method.
Some people on the group were rather positive about the new tip.
"Great tip! I will try this and hope it works!", read one impressed comment.
"Great tip since I forget to take it out early in the day", said another.
"I’ve been doing this for a while now. Works great," commented a third.
That being said, the tip has sparked a debate about which way is actually the easiest method for melting your butter, with many believing the microwave is still better and quicker.
"This is way more time consuming
