Showtime Sets Timothy Leary Docu From Oscar-Winning Filmmaker Errol Morris, Reveals First Look

Jennifer Todd and Michael De Luca's joint credits include the Austin Powers movies and the 89th and 90th annual Academy Awards telecasts. Now, the duo are set to reteam with Todd inking a first-look deal with MGM, where De Luca is the recently instated chairman of the film group.

Brent Lang Executive Editor of Film and MediaMetro-Goldwyn-Mayer has closed a first look production deal with Jennifer Todd, the producer of “Alice In Wonderland” and “Memento,” and her company Jennifer Todd Pictures.There have been murmurs that Todd was going to ally herself with MGM for months. She has a long-standing business relationship with Michael De Luca, who took over as MGM’s Film Group chairman in January.

There have been many projects devoted to the life of Timothy Leary. But none have looked at the life of the psychologist and LSD proponent quite like the new film by director Errol Morris, which is set to arrive on Showtime later this year.

Showtime Documentary Films has picked up a new feature documentary from Oscar-winning Fog of War director Errol Morris about Timothy Leary, the high priest of LSD, to premiere later this year. The project, with the working title A Film by Errol Morris, questions why Leary became an FBI narc in 1974 and, in a first look trailer unveiled late Tuesday on YouTube, introduces Joanna Harcourt-Smith, with whom Leary had a long-term relationship.
