Showtime Announces ‘Ray Donovan’ Feature Film

Emerald Fennell made her feature film directorial debut with Promising Young Woman, and on Monday, she earned her first Oscar nomination, becoming one of only seven women to ever earn a nomination in the directing category. The Directors Guild of America on Tuesday announced the feature-film and first-time director nominees for the 2021 DGA Awards. Typically, when a show does solid ratings, gets awards consideration, and runs for seven years, a network will give the creator and producers a chance to finish their story before outright canceling it. Unfortunately, that was not the courtesy given to the makers of “Ray Donovan,” as the long-running Showtime series was abruptly canceled after its 7th season, which actually left on a bit of a cliffhanger and zero resolution.

The news was announced today that Ray Donovan will be back with a feature film, and fans can’t hold back their excitement on social media.

Liev Schreiber will reprise his role as the titular hero and will co-write the script with showrunner David Hollander, who will also direct the film. Jon Voight will also return as Mickey Donovan, as well as Kerris Dorsey as Bridget, Ray's daughter.The movie, which could kick off a potential franchise, will continue Ray's journey following the series' seven-season run on Showtime, with «Mickey in the wind and Ray determined to find and stop him before he can cause any more carnage,» according to
