A sheep dog has gone viral online after a video showing his reaction to his favourite and least favourite words appeared on various social media platforms.
Ten-year-old Rex lives with his owner, Charles Lamb, who is a sheep farmer. In October 2021, Charles shared footage of his four legged friend reacting to various words and phrases, such as ‘car’, ‘go to bed’ and ‘tractor’.
Much to Charles' surprise, the clip has since received around 200,000 views on social media, including TikTok, as well as a TV appearance on a S4C agricultural show.
Many viewers have described the video as hilarious and some have even praised Rex for his evident intelligence. According to Charles, from Fishguard, Pembrokeshire, the video was created to “cheer up” one of his friends.
“For a long time, Rex has been responding to certain words either with a growl or a smile,” Charles explained to WalesOnline.
“It’s just one of those things that he does, I haven’t trained him or anything. One day, my friend was feeling down in the dumps, so to cheer her up I decided to send her a video of Rex.
“He was in the car with me at the time and I just recorded him reacting to different words. For example, with words such as ‘tractor’ or ‘car’ - he’ll respond well to those because he likes to go for a spin in both.
"He hates the words ‘washing machine’ because that’s where I used to keep his toys when they were in the way.
“My mum would tell him to ‘cer i gwely’ [‘go to bed’ in Welsh], which he also didn’t like and would growl. He hates the phrase ‘nom nom’ as well because when he was younger I used to pretend to eat his feet and he wouldn’t like that.
