Just like that, Suits is back on top.
The legal drama reclaimed its status as No. 1 on the Nielsen streaming charts for the week of September 18 to 24, after being bumped to second place last week by Netflix‘s Virgin River. Suits, which has now spent 13 weeks overall at the top of the charts racked up another 1.8B viewing minutes across Netflix and Peacock during this interval.
This marks the 14th week that Suits has tallied over 1B viewing minutes, and the series only saw a 6% decline in viewership versus the previous week, according to Nielsen.
Virgin River had to settle for third place this week, despite a very strong 1.2B minutes viewed. That’s because Elemental pushed its way to No. 2 with 1.3B.
Perhaps the most noteworthy Top 10 appearance this interval was Netflix’s Sex Education. With the debut of Season 4, the series made its way to No. 8 overall and No. 2 among streaming originals after just a few days on the service.
This is a strong showing for the series, but with only eight new episodes released all at once, it is unlikely that the series will spend much more time in the Top 10. After a full week or two of viewing, it is likely to fall off.
Meanwhile, Nielsen is highlighting the success of episodic release strategies on streaming, using examples from four competiters.
Apple TV+ managed its second appearance on the Nielsen charts following the release of The Morning Show Season 3’s third episode. Viewing was up 21% over the week prior to 422M viewing minutes, helping boost it to No. 10 on the streaming originals list.
Ahsoka (Disney+), The Wheel of Time (Prime Video) and Only Murders in the Building (Hulu_ all appeared on the originals list once again with the release of their latest episodes as well.
