Series Mania Digital Was a Success Though Key Titles Were Held Back

There can’t have been too many footballers who have appeared for clubs from the top divisions in England, Spain, Holland and France before their 21st birthday, but Manu Garcia is one man who has.

As theaters across the nation reopen in the coming months after closures due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, IFC Films will offer library titles to indie houses and waive the rental fees. The company is calling the initiative the Indie Theater Revival Project.

SeriesMania is calling its first-ever virtual edition a "great success" after the French TV festival responded to the new coronavirus crisis by going online-only this year. Instead of live festival screenings in the French city of Lille and industry events.

Jung Ho Lee’s second feature film takes the 2004 French crime film 36 Quai des Orfèvres and plants it in South Korea. After Parasite’s deserved win at the Oscars earlier this year, we’re bound to see a plethora of South Korean films released to ride the wave of success. Presented as part of Series Mania’s Coming Next from France showcase, the youth-skewing series “Derby Girl” offers a fast-paced, darkly comic portrait of a disgraced former-figure skater named Lola Bouvier (Chloé Jouannet), who is offered a shot at redemption when she joins a local roller derby league, the Cannibal Unicorns.

Arte France, a bastion of quality European TV, is looking to make its French series ever less French , as it consolidates its position as one of Europe’s most internationally-minded TV operators.
